Rebecca Jane Finch

Rebecca Jane Finch was born 22 Feb 1824 in England.  After her marriage to Joseph Argyle she first learned of the LDS Church.  Rebecca’s parents  joined and were eager for the young couple to listen to the missionaries.  It took three years and the death of a child to convince Joseph and Rebecca receive the missionaries.  After their baptism they learned the Prophet had asked everyone to join the Saints in Utah.  Rebecca was concerned because her baby was sick and the Argyle’s were afraid the small weak girl would die. Elder Israel Barlow promised the Argyle’s if they would go to Utah their family would arrive safe and in good health.  They became part of the 1^st handcart Company.  Rebecca carried the baby in her apron as she walked to Utah.  When they arrived in Salt Lake they found Elder Barlow among the first to welcome them.

They settled in Bountiful, Utah and Rebecca Jane became one of the first midwifes in that area. Oh yes, the baby died at age 79.

Rebecca was Denece Ann Argyle Perkins' Great Great Grandmother.
