A Move to Chesterfield

When the kids were still young, we left the dry farm three miles northeast of Bancroft where we enjoyed ourselves for four years.  All this time, father Argyle lived with us and he was very good to the children.  We bought his house.  We lived in it on the dry farm and then moved it to the ranch in Chesterfield where we lived for six years.  We purchased the farm from my mother.  Life was comfortable here as the Utah Power and Light put electricity throughout the county and everyone made their homes modern.  The children had buses to go to school in.  The schools all consolidated and had one big school in Bancroft.  Doyle was a Senior in high school now and he fell in love with a lovely girl named Joyce Jenkins.  They were married on 12 June, 1950 in the Logan Temple.  Their home was blessed with our first grandchild on 1 November 1952.

Working in High School

Edwin also worked for National Laundry when he was still in high school.  His job was to clean out the washers, wash down the floor, and starch the railroad workers' uniforms.  When he was cleaning out the washers he would find surgical tools from the hospital.  He would clean out the drain when he was done and would usually find fifty cents or as much as two dollars.  That would be his spending money.

Hereford Cattle

Grandpa Delbert Argyle raised Hereford cattle on his ranch.  They had to watch the cows that were calving.  The main reason was that the cows would get down in the willows and drop the calves in the water.

From Edwinna Perkins Forschler:  I remember that they would often give birth out on the ice of the frozen river. I could never understand why a calf wouldn't arrive in the spring when the weather was more conducive.

A Small Fire

Edwin got a job when he was seventeen working for Ford Music Company.  One of his jobs was driving the store’s trash to the dump.  They wanted him to bring back one of the large boxes to put more trash in.  Somehow the box caught fire on the way back to the store.  Some other driver got his attention and he had to stop, pull the box out, and stomp the fire out.  The fire scorched the paint in the back of the truck.  Edwin thinks he must have got a spark from the fire they were using to burn some of the trash.
