One Spring, when Denece was in first grade, she was riding a
horse to school. Denece was tired and
riding behind Doyle. They rode horses
because the road was too muddy for a wagon.
Denece dropped the reins and Doyle leaned forward to help her grab the
reins and clucked the horse. It began to
buck and then run. She yelled to her father
for help, but the horse he was riding could not catch her. He yelled to her that she knew what to do and
she was the only one who could stop the horse.
She finally reached the reins and got the horse stopped and she looked
back and asked what had happened to Doyle?
Her father said that he had fallen off and they would have to go back and look for
him. They went back and found Doyle on
the only piece of dry ground on the road.
